Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.
